If we wanted to use a metaphor to explain the meaning of leadership, we could draw from the nautical world. The leader, a bit like the captain of a ship, is the one who perfectly knows the route to follow. He knows what role each crew member has to play to keep the voyage smoothly. 5 Golden Rules on How a Successful Leader Acts
If the reader aspires to improve their leadership, or learn the secrets of becoming a great leader, they can sit back and read the following. How does a successful leader act? The question is not easy to resolve. To the realization of a good leader there are several factors that are wisely mixed together. The five golden rules are the ones that no leader should do without, and they are:
- Inspire enthusiasm: What distinguishes a leader from an authoritarian leader is the emotions these two characters arouse in the group. The leader does not inspire fear, nor does he set limits. On the contrary, he is the one who empowers the members of the group to express the best of themselves and to do it in the best way.
- He gets involved: this rule is strictly connected to the previous one. The successful leader, when setting goals for the group, also puts himself and his skills on the line. When goals are set, they become commonplace. The leader makes sure that the result achieved is the work of all of them and not just one.
- Communicates transparently: the leader is able to offer the group the so-called “vision”, that is the goal that the group has to achieve and the strategy to do so. For the group to embrace the vision, the leader must show a great capacity for listening and understanding. Listening to the needs and requirements of the group is very useful for building a good working climate.
- He is able to communicate effectively with the body: there are numerous studies that confirm the importance of non-verbal communication. It is estimated that when we communicate something, only 30% of our message goes through the oral channel. The remaining 70% we communicate with the body. These numbers give a clear insight into the importance of body language.
- He always sets new goals and makes work dynamic: the great ability of the leader lies in his continuous tension towards new results that act as an innovative stimulus for the team. To make work dynamic and increase profits, the leader offers new responsibilities, new tasks to group members. This will tend to take everyone out of the comfort zone and move beyond the static daily routine.
This is how a successful leader acts. It is always good to remember that, for it to work, everyone must first become a good leader of himself.
